TRANSITIONS

We just returned from Disney World to the northern climes of Ohio. It's snowing and I am thinking about transitions.

Warm weather to cold. Old life to new. This task to that. Transitions are the synapses in between. They are where we make the adjustments to re-orient and re-focus where we plan to be, where we are going, and where we are at.

Every moment is a perceived stasis that is in transition. An end in itself, to be observed or performed as perfectly as any sacramental ritual, yet transient and moving ahead beyond our control - like a Disney ride.

Defining who we are is difficult because the self is a moving target.

A life of fleeting performance rituals filled with epiphanies and continuous transitions.

The direction is not pre-determined, but is ad hoc. Unlike a Disney ride, we have some control and choice of what the ride will be like.

We get to define the transitions, to a point. But, the exact details of the destinations are always unknown. This is a ride we have never taken before.
